Well, we've been home for 12 days now and although our departure from Touro was bittersweet, we are happy to be home, Nicholas included. It was our hope that when we left Touro, Nicholas would be walking and talking. That is not the case. He is making slow but steady progress and we are continually praying for his TOTAL recovery, as I am sure you all are. Since coming home, Nicholas has tried to verbalize several times. Yesterday, his dad heard him for the first time and it was very emotional. He has reacted to the dogs and to us in some very positive ways. I know that he is happy to be home and when you ask him, he gives you a "thumbs up". We had a hard time finding a sitter, so Emily spent last week at home with him and did a fantastic job. They played games together and I know he will miss her now that the new sitters have arrived. We have two great ladies who are taking care of him in shifts. One from 7:30 to 12:30 and the other from 12:30 to 5:30, so that I can go back to work.
There are several stages in the recovery of a brain injured person. Nicholas seems to be at Stage IV right now. For the past few days, he has been more aggressive with his movements and responses. We must be very careful not to overstimulate him. I am asking that only 2 people go into his room at a time and that you talk one at a time to allow him to process what you are saying. He seems to become overwhelmed with too much conversation and cannot distinguish one person from another and has trouble following what is being said. This causes him to "shut down" and he may not respond to you at all.
We know that you all would like to visit with him and that he needs to see you too. Because our family is trying to keep things as normal as possible, we ask that you please call before coming over so that we can limit the number of people to give you some one on one time. Thanks, Ms. Sondra

Hey Nick, Its Libby, remember when you were young and you pied in my face when i was changing your diaper!! You were the first baby to do that to me and i will never forget that. It had been a while since i had seen you and at Emily and I's class reunion I saw you and didn't even recognize you. I asked Emily who the Cute guy was she was talking to and it was you. Do you remember that? Remember we laughed about that for about 30minutes. You are such a strong and determined guy and I know you will pull through this with flying colors, you just needed a break from this fast life we all live in. You take your time and I know you will be back to good and better, no rush!!
Emily,
We haven't seen each other in a while but i am praying for you and your family and miss yall very much. Hope all is well and all you can do is pray and be there for Nick, he will pull through I know it.
