Halloween 2011

Nicholas was Paul Teutul, Sr. of American Choppers for Halloween this year. I see he is starting a tradition of annual beard growth.

New year, new skills

It's been a long time since I posted any news about Nick, but since January, there have been lots of changes. In January, Nick was re-evaluated for therapy and he is now back in Speech and Physical Therapy twice a week. He has been showing remarkable improvement. I will be posting a video of Nick WALKING, yes, Walking!!!! I don't have a video camera, but as soon as I can get my hands on one, I will have it up on this blog. He has been walking without the aid of his walker. It is absolutely amazing! For the first time since his accident, he can walk several steps completely unaided. My only problem with him is that he doesn't want assistance and we get into an argument every time I put my hands on him to steady him. But, I can be stubborn too and I don't want him to hurt himself, so if you go by my house and see us in the driveway fussing at each other, that is why. We have put on a few shows for the neighbors. We always end up laughing! His speech has improved also. We have been able to set aside his letter chart and pull it out only when we are really stumped. Thank you Jesus!

Last weekend I took him to New Orleans for the Rascal Flatts concert. Nick and I had tickets to see them back in 2006 when they were in Lafayette. He had just started his job at City Bar and was unable to attend. A few weeks later he was in the accident. While he was in the coma, the therapist suggested that we get a radio or ipod so that he could listen to music. I put Rascal Flatts music on his ipod and put the headphones on him. Also, on our trip in the ambulance back to the house from the hospital in New Orleans, several months later, he listened to that ipod. It was a very emotional concert for me. The concert was great, but lots of memories of those days flooded through my mind. I am so greatful for the healing he has had since then. The music reminded me of where he's been and how far he has come. I am so thankful for God's grace and for all of the changes Nick and our whole family have experienced in the last few years. We are also so thankful for our friends who have stood by us through all of the ups and downs. I love you all! Sondra

Halloween

This picture should explain the beard. I dressed as a character from one of my favorite movies.
