"Elvis Smile"

Well, as you all know, we rejoice in the little changes. Nicholas has been moving about more and more every day. He has been bending and stretching his legs when we turn him, which is a sign that his brain signals are starting to connect to other parts of the body. His arms are not only moving from the wrist down but he is getting stronger and his "waves" are coming from his elbow now. Last night Nicholas smiled for Emily with a crooked smile that looked a little like "Elvis". When I got home he did it again when Emily asked him to and he smiled again for his Dad this morning. I can hardly wait until I can see that beautiful smile again (broken tooth and all!!!) Except for the times when he seems in a daze, Nick is understanding what we say to him and he is trying very hard to respond. We have definately been getting the message when he is angry or frustrated. He even gave the sitter a signal when she went to close the curtain yesterday afternoon.

Again, I will ask that when you come to see him, speak to him one at a time as you normally would, but give him time to respond. His responses are slow. He DOES understand you!
