Eric and Amanda took Nicholas back to the eye doctor in Mandeville on Monday. He will be getting new glasses any day now. The doctor told us that it would take a few tries to get them right since he has limited communication, but he was able to help with the exam much more this time and the doctor was impressed with his progress.
As we speak, a new walker is being built for him. We borrowed one from another patient who goes to "Helping Hands" and he can walk with it almost unassisted. We still need to help him steady himself but he is doing all of the moving and balancing.
Since my last posting we have acquired a new sitter for Nick. His previous sitter had a family emergency and we had to find someone new. Her name is Stella and Nick really likes her. She has been bringing him to therapy and does lots of things with him that he didn't get to do before. They takes rides to town and often go to Sonic.
Sunday Nick had lots of company and he was happier than I had seen him in a long time. I must warn you all, if you come to visit, he sometimes asks "inappropriate questions". This is all part of the healing process.
Every day there is a new piece to the puzzle that connects in his brain. He has been remembering all sorts of random events which is encouraging to me because I pray that the pieces will one day come together.
Although Nick still cannot process liquids, he eats extremely well and LOVES SWEETS. That is something different from before the accident. He always loved to eat, but he didn't crave sweets so much. I think that sometimes he is just bored.
Saturday, Emily, Nick, Kate and I went to Lafayette to bring Jordan his truck, then we went shopping and to eat lumch at Picadilly. We had a very full, tiring day, but Nick did great. He was so worn out that he fell asleep just after dark and slept until the next morning.
Since the last posting, we have also been bringing him to mass on Sunday. I was a little apprehensive about it, but he was completely attentive and even recognized a few people going to Communion. He insisted on standing when everyone else stood even though I tried to get him to sit. He can also receive Communion.
Thank you for your continued prayers.
