Nicholas has made significant progress since last posting. He can sit by himself now on a bench. He helps in dressing and we stood him up at the lavatory and he brushed his teeth this weekend. Although we had a hard time getting him out, Eric and I put him in the bathtub and let him soak. He really enjoyed it. He is talking a little now and we got him to say the names of the whole family on Sunday.
Yesterday at therapy he walked up steps unassisted. He held on to the railings and walked by putting one foot on each step (not both) like he had been doing before. He also spoke for the speech therapist for the first time. We don't need to scope his throat to see it there is anything wrong with his vocal chords because it is apparent that they are working. He just needs to continue with his therapy.
We are still waiting for the insurance company to OK the Botox injections.
This morning Nick saw Dr. Rossen for the first time since September. Dr. Rossen thought he was doing much better and was very encouraged by his appearance. They weighed him and approximated that he weighed between 160 and 165 lbs., which is more than he weighed at the time of the accident.
Nick continues to ask to see the pictures from the accident. We are all so fortunate to still have him around. I think he knows that too.
We have had to watch him very carefully lately. He can get around very well in the little wheelchair. I caught him trying to eat things that he cannot. Hopefully, his swallowing and chewing will get better very quickly and he will get to eat again very soon. He asks to eat constantly. I can only imagine what it would be like not to get to taste things for so long.
Please come by an visit, I know that he misses all of you.

Happy Thanksgiving to the Trahans
Things to be thankful for...a family with another day together, a future with hope, the addition of new family members, the love and encouragement provided by family and friends through obvious and subtle ways during the best of times and the worst of times....God because he has provided all of the above...

What a Blessed Thanksgiving! Nick, you possess a deep strength and faith that most people don't realize they have until they are much older. One day you will look back on this time in your life and know that you are a stronger person because of it. Everyday is a blessing and we all look forward to the day when we see you running around, back at school, hanging out with your friends. Continue the hard work - we are all praying for you!
