It has been a while since I reported on Nick's progress. The home health physical therapist has determined that Nick is ready for outpatient therapy. He has been doing very well with everything he has been asked to do. He is continually getting stronger. We are hoping that the new therapy will encourage him. It is very difficult to be aware of everything going on around him and not be able to do the things he wants to do.
Thursday, we will be going to the doctor and to "Helping Hands" to get started with his outpatient therapy. We have gotten great reports from Erin's family and from his rehab physician on this place and are very hopeful that he will continue to progress there.
Friday is Nick's 20th birthday and he has met all of the goals I have set for him except two. He still is not swallowing well enough for him to eat cake for his birthday and he cannot talk. He has, although, been able to say "Mom" on occasion and will be able to eat ice cream. I have faith that with a little more time, he will be able to do those things. We acquired a wheelchair that can be folded and put in the trunk of my car. It has made it much easier for me to transport him, although it takes much more effort on his part to sit erect and to hold his head straight. We went to Jordan's basketball games on Saturday and to Amanda's on Sunday and he enjoyed the outing, but was extremely tired when we got home. I am hoping to take him to the mall on Saturday because he has told me that he wants new shoes. It will be out first experience shopping.
Janine have me the binder from the Skeet shoot last night and I scanned through it. My family is so very thankful to have friends like all of you who helped us. I had no idea of the magnitude of your generosity. God is watching and he will bless you all.
I have found someone to clean my house and they will start on Friday. I am very happy about this since I can devote all of my time to Nick on the weekends.
Thank you all for your prayers.
Sondra
